digital darkroom action

"shudder's digital darkroom"

-- PS action version revving

shudder's digi-darkroom v.1.atn

-- Initially released (public beta?) mid-January, 2004

shudder's digi-darkroom 1.1.atn

-- Released January 30, 2004

-- Various bug fixes that turned up as a result of insufficient public beta a few days earlier (my bad!).

shudder's digi-darkroom 1.2.atn

-- Released March 14, 2004

-- PROLOGUE: Added a Hue/Saturation adjustment step to lower the reds, but it is off by default (it's only good for use on certain pics that have a lot of *popping red* in them, such as shots with red baseball uniforms, etc.).

-- PROLOGUE: Single Levels adjustment step now (removed Auto Levels step as automatic levels can be achieved by clicking the "Auto" button).

-- SHUDDER SHARPENING I: Single Haze Removal USM step now -- dialog comes up now so that you can alter the USM on the fly if you think that 30/60.0/1 is too heavy (removed second USM step that was set to 30/120.0/1).

-- SHUDDER SHARPENING II: Altered resizing step so that resizing to 25% of original file size takes place over five independent resize dialogs. This is because better images will result if the resizing is done slowly rather than all at once as it was done in v1.1.

-- ADDENDUM: DODGE/BURN: I noticed that this action would fail at the first Fill step if the file was a very small one (due to the location where I placed the Fill paint bucket on the image while originally recording the action). This is now fixed so that the action does not fail, no matter what the size the image is.

shudder's digi-darkroom 2.0.atn

-- Released April 1, 2006 (and that's no joke!)

The action has been completely rewritten pretty much from the ground up. It is now a much more comprehensive all-in-one action, including steps for pushing images to 16 bit mode, a velvia action step, yirmon's b/w conversion (which you can read more about here), plus much more. And since David Marsit's very excellent ISO PS NR action seems to have disappeared from the net (the canonians.com site has been down for quite a while now...), I have integrated his process into mine (and credited him, of course). There is a lot more to the action now, and it is for Adobe Photoshop CS 2 only at this point (sorry, but I don't have time to convert to all the other packages out there... after all I ain't gettin' paid for this...).

For those who are familiar with any of the 1.x revs of the actions, the familiar "shudder sharpening" steps are still in place, but now modified to work in PS CS2, taking advantage of things available only in that program (specifically, the new SmartSharpen filter).
